Oblique Photos for 1000 Cities in Europe
With the integration of aerial photographs taken with an angle of approx. 45 degrees, Novasys has the possibility to offer extraordinary images to its customer-base. Those images are available to-day for more than 1000 city-areas in Europe incl. 7 cities in Switzerland. The coverage is being ex-tended for most of the Eastern Europe countries. The oblique photos enable the users to have a realistic impression of a certain location and its environment.
Novasys is able from today to deliver micrometric (also called oblique) data integrated in the Maponair products or accessible trough the Novasys web-services. Those 45 degrees images were taken by an airplane with 5 cameras on board with a resolution of 15cm. Compared with the high quality of the SwissTopo orthofotos, the the pictometric data gives a different and improved user experience.. As the images are not taken vertical to the surface but in an angle, the user gets a very realistic view of a certain location and its environment. Integrated in the Flash-Client, the user can zoom-in / zoom-out and can view the location from 4 different directions (N, S, E, W). It is also possible to pan across the city while the new images are loaded automatically on the fly. To choose a location, the maps are used to find it and then it is easy to switch from the map to the pictometric image. When switching back from pictometric image to the map data, the current coordinate is calculated and updated to the map. Therefore, a user can’t get lost between the 2 data sets. The pictometric data is of added value for the following segments: directory portals and services, telecom and internet portals (real estate, tourism, cities), police, fire brigades, security and others. Next to the availability in the Maponair-products or in the Flash-Client, the images can be accessed and integrated in a client application by using the Novasys web-services. If needed, the data can be integrated physically in a local infrastructure and accessed via a plug-in to common GIS-products as MapInfo, Arc-Map, Autodesk, Geomedia and others. With the plug-in, it is possible to get different information of build-ings and streets/roads by clicking on the image (height, length, wide aso.). This plug-in could be interesting for administration departments (building-, survey-, planning-, traffic-departments), police and security. As a first step, the areas (centre only) of Bern and Geneva in Switzerland and Oostende in Belgium have been integrated. You can test yourself the pictometric data over the following link:
